How To
Good preparation is key to achieving a professional-looking, long-lasting finish.
For an Uncoated Deck
-
Remove surface dirt by sweeping or hosing.
-
Shake DEX PREP thoroughly before use and mix in a plastic container or bucket. Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use.
-
General cleaning: Mix 1 part DEX PREP to 5 parts water.
-
Severe staining: Apply neat.
-
-
Wet the surface to be cleaned.
-
Apply the mixture generously with a scouring or scrubbing brush and scrub the timber thoroughly. Leave for 10–15 minutes.
-
Rinse off using a garden hose. For larger areas or badly discoloured timber, use a high-pressure water cleaner.
-
Before applying TIMBRE+ DECKING OIL, stir thoroughly before and during application. Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use.
-
Apply liberally along the length of the boards. Coat no more than two or three boards at a time to maintain a wet edge and prevent lap marks. Allow to dry before recoating. Refer to the Technical Data Sheet for drying times and weather conditions.
-
We recommend a three-coat system.
For a Deck Previously Coated With Paint
-
Remove any loose or peeling paint, along with obvious surface dirt, soil or dust.
-
Test a small area before application to determine the required thickness of QSTRIP, generally around 3 mm. Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use. Note the time required for the product to work, with a minimum of approximately 40 minutes.
-
Apply QSTRIP using a brush, roller or applicator pad. Leave for a minimum of 40 minutes to soften and dissolve the coating. Thicker coatings may take several hours. Check a small area with a palette knife. If the coating removes easily, proceed with the entire area.
-
For stubborn coatings, use a stiff broom or brush, paying close attention to cracks and grooves. Remove the coating by scraping, scrubbing or pressure washing.
-
Generally, two applications will be sufficient. However, a third application may sometimes be required. Allow the surface to dry and inspect it. Repeat the process on any areas where the coating has not been completely removed.

For a Deck Previously Coated With Oil or Stain
-
Wet surrounding areas and plants before starting. Apply undiluted POWER CLEAN to the wet surface using a garden sprayer, brush or roller. No thinning is required. Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use.
-
Allow POWER CLEAN to remain wet on the surface for approximately 10 minutes. Do not allow the product to dry on the surface.
-
Using a stiff-bristle broom, scrub the surface to determine whether the existing coating has lifted.
-
Use a strong jet of water or pressure washer to rinse the timber surface. Repeat if necessary.
-
Follow with DEX PREP to neutralise the timber and remove any darkening that may have occurred during the cleaning process. Mix 1 L DEX PREP with 1 L water. Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use.

Application Considerations
-
Allow a minimum three-day window with no rain for preparation and penetration of the coatings.
-
Depending on the amount of high-pressure cleaning required, an additional day may be needed before applying the coating to allow the timber to dry thoroughly. If the timber remains saturated, the coating may not penetrate correctly.
-
Misting the deck is only required when coating in high temperatures and full sun. Do not flood the surface, as this may dilute the product too much.
-
Consider using tints to assist with UV stability and appearance, particularly on aged or grey timber.
We understand these timeframes are not always easy to achieve. However, failure to follow the recommended system may result in the product deteriorating earlier than expected.
