How To
Good preparation is key to achieving a professional-looking, long-lasting finish.
1. Prepare the Deck
Power wash the deck using SAP STRIP to remove extractives and help sterilise any fungus or mould. This process also helps open up the timber, remove mill glaze and improve penetration of the coating.
Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use.
Application Method
-
Dissolve 300 g of SAP STRIP in 5 litres of hot water.
-
Apply using a brush or garden sprayer.
-
Agitate with a stiff broom or brush to help lift tannins and extractives.
-
Leave on the surface for 15–30 minutes.
-
Wash off with a strong jet of water, preferably using a pressure washer, to remove any residual cleaner and tannins brought to the surface.
2. Prepare the Decking Oil
Before applying TIMBRE+ DECKING OIL, stir thoroughly before and during application.
Read the Technical Data Sheet thoroughly before use.
3. Apply the Decking Oil
Apply liberally along the length of the boards. Coat no more than two or three boards at a time to maintain a wet edge and help prevent lap marks.
Allow the coating to dry before recoating. Refer to the Technical Data Sheet for recommended drying times and suitable weather conditions.
4. Apply Three Coats
We recommend a three-coat system for best results.
Application Considerations
-
Allow a minimum three-day window with no rain to provide sufficient time for preparation and penetration of the coatings.
-
Depending on the amount of high-pressure cleaning required, an additional day may be needed before applying the coating to allow the timber to dry thoroughly. If the timber remains saturated, the coating may not penetrate correctly.
-
Misting the deck before applying TIMBRE+ DECKING OIL is only required when coating in high temperatures and full sun. Do not flood the surface, as this may dilute the product too much.
-
Consider using tints to assist with UV stability and appearance, particularly on aged or grey timber.
We understand these timeframes are not always easy to achieve. However, failure to follow the recommended system may result in the product deteriorating earlier than expected.
