How To

Good preperation is key to a professional looking, long lasting finish.

For Un-coated Deck:

1. Remove surface dirt by sweeping or hosing.

2. Shake DEX PREP (read technical data sheet thoroughly before use) thoroughly and mix in a plastic container or bucket. General cleaning: Mix one part DEX PREP to 5 parts water Severe Staining: Apply neat

3. Wet the surface to be cleaned.

4. Apply mixture generously with a scouring or scrubbing brush and scrub timber thoroughly. Leave for 10 - 15 minutes.

5. Rinse off using a garden hose, or high pressure water cleaner for large area or badly discoloured timber.

6. Before applying TIMBRE+ DECKING OIL stir thoroughly before and during application. (read technical data sheet thoroughly before use)

7. Apply liberally along the lengths of the boards (coat no more than 2 or 3 at a time to maintain a wet edge and prevent lap marks). Allow to dry until you re-coat. (read technical data sheet re dry time, weather pedning)

8. We recommend a 3 coat system.

For Deck Previously Coated With Paint:

1. Remove any loose or peeling paint and obvious solid soil or dusty agglomerates.

2. Wet Test a small area prior to application to determine the thickness (generally 3mm) of QSTRIP (read technical data sheet thoroughly before use) required and note the time (minimum 40 minutes) needed to allow it to work.

3. Apply QSTRIP using a brush, roller or applicator pad, and leave for a minimum of 40 minutes to soften and dissolve the film. Thicker coatings may take a few hours. It is advisable to check a small area with a palette knife. If it removes easily proceed with the entire area.

4. On stubborn coatings use a stiff broom or brush, (pay close attention to cracks and grooves), then remove by scraping, scrubbing or power wash.

5. Generally, two applications will work, however sometimes a third application may be required. Leave to dry and examine. Repeat process in any areas that have not been removed until the entire area is acceptable.

For Deck Previously Coated With Oil Or Stain:

1. Wet surrounding areas and plants before starting. Apply undiluted POWER CLEAN (read technical data sheet thoroughly before use) to wet surface using a garden spray, brush or roller. (No thinning required)

2. Allow POWER CLEAN to remain wet on the surface for approximately 10 minutes. (Do not let the product dry on the surface).

3. Using a stiff bristle broom, scrub the surface to see if the coating has lifted.

4. Use a strong jet of water or pressure wash to rinse the surface of the timber. Repeat if necessary.

5. Follow up with DEX PREP (read technical data sheet thoroughly before use) to neutralise the timber and rid the surface of any darkening which may occur in the cleaning process. (1L DEX PREP : 1L Water).

Application Considerations

- Minimim 3 day window with no rain to allow for preperation and penetration of coatings.

- Depending on the amount of High Pressure cleaning the timber requires, an extra day may be needed prior to applying coatings to allow the timber to thoroughly dry. Otherwise the timber will be saturated and not allow coatings to penetrate.

Misting of the deck is only required when coating in high temps and full Sun. Not flooding as this will dilute the product too much.

- Consider using tints to help with UV stability and appearance particulary with aged and grey timbers.

We understand these time frames aren’t always easily achievable but failure to adhere to the system will more then likely result in product deterioration earlier then the consumer would like.
