Factors To Consider Prior To Coating Your Deck

Why Decking Oils Break Down

- Full exposure to sunlight

- Full exposure to rain

- Age of timber

- Species of timber

- Continued Tannin bleed of timber

- High pressure cleaning regularly

- Decks that are built low to the ground where water can pool and stay damp

We believe that in FULL exposure, decks may require re-coating after 8 - 12 months or when visual signs of deterioration are evident. The longer they are left the more the timber will be affected.

Application Considerations

- Minimim 3 day window with no rain to allow for preperation and penetration of coatings.

- Depending on the amount of High Pressure cleaning the timber requires, an extra day may be needed prior to applying coatings to allow the timber to thoroughly dry. Otherwise the timber will be saturated and not allow coatings to penetrate.

- Misting of the deck is only required when coating in high temps and full Sun. Not flooding as this will dilute the product too much.

- Consider using tints to help with UV stability and appearance.

We understand these time frames aren’t always easily achievable but failure to adhere to the system will more then likely result in product deterioration earlier then the consumer would like.

Ideal Application System

1. Day 1 prep floor and apply 1 coat.

2. Day 2 apply 2 more coats.

3. Allow a day or 2 to dry then enjoy.

RECOATS WILL GENERALLY NEED A CLEAN WITH DEXPREP AND 2-3 MORE COATS, also consider the use tints to help with the signs of aging.
